Tree Map Chart

Also known as Tree Map Graph

1. What is a Tree Map chart?

A tree map chart is used to display hierarchically organized data using nested rectangles to represent the branches of a tree diagram. Each sub-branch is shown as a smaller rectangle.

When to use Tree Map chart?

A tree map chart is used to display data that is grouped and nested in a hierarchical (or tree-based) structure.

Consider using Tree map when you want to showcase the data that are significant in a specific category :

  • You want to visualize a part-to-whole relationship amongst a large number of categories.

  • Precise comparisons between categories are not important.

  • The data is hierarchical.

2. How to build a Tree Map chart with example

The tree map chart effectively illustrates sales revenue by region, presenting a hierarchical view of the data where each region is subdivided into smaller rectangles representing sales channels, allowing businesses to visually analyze the revenue distribution by region and gain insights into the contribution of different sales channels within each region, enabling informed decision-making and resource allocation for optimizing sales strategies.

  1. Click Click here to add your first chart
