1. What is a Heat Map chart?

A heat map chart is a data table using colors to represent data values. The value determines the color of each cell in the table. This chart is useful when visualizing large and complex data.

When to use Heat Map chart?

A heat map chart is ideal when you need to indicate the categorical variable's value in the corresponding cell range by each cell's color.

2. How to build a Heat Map chart with example

The heat map chart visually portrays the revenue distribution across different item types over time, using color intensity to represent the revenue levels, allowing businesses to quickly identify trends, patterns, and fluctuations in revenue by item types across different time periods, facilitating effective analysis and decision-making regarding sales strategies and product performance.

  1. Click Click here to add your first chart

  2. In the menu, select Heat Maps to create a Heat Map chart

3. Heat Map Chart Config

  1. Select the database you use to create suggested in the list

  2. Choose the table containing the data you use to create, then it will show you the list of fields included in the table

  3. Drag/drop or select the X-Axis value

  4. Drag/drop or select the Y-Axis value

  5. Drag/drop or select the Value number

  6. Drag/drop or select the Sorting field to sort out the data in the chart (optional)

  7. Drag/drop or select the Filters field to emphasize a specific data (optional)

  8. You can see the visualization of your chart on the left side and select Settings to change the element’s settings

  • TITLE & SUBTITLE

You can change the title of the chart, choose the font, color and size of the name. You can also add the subtitle and change its format.

  • X AXIS

When you turn on the X Axis, you can input the Prefix, Postfix and change their format. X Axix title can also be added and change format too.

  • Y AXIS

When you turn on the X Axis, you can input the Prefix, Postfix and change their format. X Axix title can also be added and change format too. If you turn on Gridlines, you can change the size and the display of the Gridlines (solid, dash, dot,...).

  • DATA COLOR

Value color can be set auto or you can choose your favorite colors.

  • DATA LABEL

If you turn the label on, you can choose its style to perform (percent, value, raw), choose the font, color and size of the label and its position.

  • BACKGROUND

You can change the background color of the chart.

  • TOOLTIP

When you hover over a cell of the chart, a text box appears to display information about the data of that cell. You can change the text color, font, and background.

  • OTHER

Change the display unit, precision, and other functions

9. After building the chart visualization, click Add to create your chart.

10. Your chart will show up along with actions like sharing, editing, etc.
