1. What is a Pyramid chart?

A pyramid chart (also known as Triangle diagram) is used to organize data in a hierarchical way or compare datasets, show proportions, or illustrate a workflow.

When to use Pyramid chart?

A pyramid chart is typically used to represent hierarchical or proportional data, where the categories or data points have a distinct hierarchical relationship. It is particularly useful when there is a need to visually demonstrate the distribution, comparison, or composition of data in a hierarchical structure, with the largest category at the top and progressively smaller categories descending towards the base.

2. How to build a Pyramid chart with example

The pyramid chart effectively presents the distribution of orders based on priority in a hierarchical structure, with the highest priority at the top and descending priorities towards the base, allowing businesses to visually assess the proportional composition of orders at different priority levels and prioritize resources accordingly for efficient order management and fulfillment.

  1. Click Click here to add your first chart

  2. In the menu, select Pyramid to create a pyramid chart

3. Pyramid Chart Config

  1. Select the database you use to create suggested in the list

  2. Choose the table containing the data you use to create, then it will show you the list of fields included in the table

  3. Drag/drop or select the Legend properties you want to display on the Pyramid Chart

  4. Drag/drop or select the Value corresponding to the Legend properties

  5. Drag/drop or select the Sorting field to sort out the data in the chart (optional)

  6. Drag/drop or select the Filters field to emphasize a specific data (optional)

  7. You can see the visualization of your chart on the left side and select Settings to change the element’s settings

  • TITLE & SUBTITLE

You can change the title of the chart, choose the font, color and size of the name. You can also add the subtitle and change its format.

  • LEGEND

Legend field can be showed or hidden. You can change the legend position (top, bottom, middle), input the name, choose the font, color and size of the name.

  • DATA COLOR

Data color can be set auto or you can choose your favorite colors.

  • DATA LABEL

If you turn the label on, it will display the raw value that the sectors represent. You can choose its style to perform (percent, value, raw), choose the font, color and size of the label and its position.

  • BACKGROUND

You can change the background color of the chart.

  • TOOLTIP

When you hover over a bar of the chart, a text box appears to display information about the data of that bar. You can change the text color, font, and background.

  • OTHER

Change the display unit, precision, and other functions

8. After building the chart visualization, click Add to create your chart.

9. Your chart will show up along with actions like sharing, editing, etc.

We hope that the above instructions will be useful to you. Let's have a look at our other articles to learn more about using other charts in data visualization with Rocket.BI.
